Truckee Lights
A crowd-sourced map that helps neighbors find Truckee's best-decorated houses, with a spooky Halloween edition (Truckee Frights) and a Christmas edition. Built in 2023 and relaunched in October 2026 as an open-source, fully serverless site: a static app on Cloudflare's edge network with Supabase behind it. Source: github.com/elevityx/truckeelights.
Highlights
- Rebuilt and relaunched in a single day ahead of Halloween, moving the backend from Firebase to Supabase.
- Fully serverless: a static Next.js export on Cloudflare Pages, with Postgres row-level security and database functions doing the work of an API server.
- Neighbors add a house in seconds with no account, by searching or tapping the map, protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, rate limits, and duplicate detection.
- Two seasonal themes from one codebase, switched live from an admin console, plus social cards and a printable QR flyer for sharing around town.
